The number of domain name registration transfers from other registrars to Doteasy have increased significantly since the Domain Transfer option was added on the Transfer Hosting sign up form.
There have been a lot of questions regarding domain transfers and the entire process. So, lets go over what domain transfers are and see if we can help those who are confused.
What is a domain name registration transfer?
A domain name registration transfer is when you transfer the management of your domain name from one registrar to another.
This will move the administrative functions of the domain name, including DNS management, contact information management, and WHOIS information management of your domain name to the new registrar. The new registrar will then take over the support for your domain name.
Why do I need to transfer my domain name?
The reason why you need to transfer your domain name to a new registrar is if you want to renew your domain name with the new registrar.
Under the current system, only the domain name’s registrar can renew the domain. So, before you can renew your domain with a new registrar, you will need to transfer your domain registrar to them first, before the new registrar can apply your renewal.
I am transferring my domain to Doteasy. What do I need to do?
Transferring your domain name to Doteasy for a renewal is quite simple, if you make sure the following 3 things are done beforehand.
1. The domain needs to be unlocked. If you domain name is locked, you can contact your current registrar and have them unlock it for you.
2. Make sure the admin email address on your domain WHOIS record is valid. If any changes are required, you can contact your current registrar for assistance.
3. You will need your domain Auth Code for approving the transfer. If you don’t have the Auth Code, you can get this from your current registrar.
Once those 3 things are done, you can submit a renewal/transfer request in Member Zone. After the transfer is initiated, In2net Network, the company through which Doteasy registers its domain names, will send an email to the admin email address with instructions on how to approve the transfer. You will then need to follow those instructions to complete the transfer.
