Last time we talked about why expired domains cannot be transferred, now let’s look at how to transfer an “ACTIVE” domain from your registrar to Doteasy, in particular from these registrars:

  • GoDaddy
  • 1 & 1 Domain
  • Melbourne IT
  • NameCat
  • Network Solutions
  • Web.com
  • Register.com
  • NameCheap
  • Moniker
  • Joker

We will begin our domain transfer series with GoDaddy.

Pre-Transfer Checklist:

  • Confirm your administration email address in your WHOIS records.
  • Disable domain privacy. If the privacy service forwards incoming email, check the “forward to” contact email address for accuracy.
  • Verify that the domain is unlocked.
  • Obtain the domain’s transfer authorization code (also referred to as an EPP or auth code).

NOTE: GoDaddy does not allow domain transfer-aways within 60-120 days of registration, a previous transfer or renewal.

1. Log into your account management panel at GoDaddy – if you do not have your account details, you will need to contact GoDaddy for assistance.

2. Once you’ve logged into your GoDaddy account, click on Domain Manager under “My Products” on the sidebar.

3. Select the check box next to the domain you want to transfer to Doteasy.

4. Change the Lock status to “unlocked”. Under Domain Information, click “Manage” next to Locked.

5. Deselect the check box Lock domains, and then click OK.

6. A second confirmation screen will appear. Click OK.

7. Refresh the browser window to verify that your domain is listed as unlocked.

8. Under Domain Enhancements: check that Privacy is set to Off. To change, click Manage next to Privacy.

9. Update your email address. A Domains by Proxy login screen will pop up in a new window. Login with your Domains by Proxy login and password.

10. Click Domains.

11. Click the domain name that you want to transfer. Click continue.

12. In the Modify Email Preferences section, select either Forward all email or Filter for Spam and then forward remaining email.

* Select Forward all email if transfer request messages are treated as spam (normally, they are allowed by the spam filters).

13. Click My Settings to verify your email address used for forwarding.

14. Update the email address if required, then click Save.

15. A Changes Saved message will appear. Log out of Domains by Proxy to return to your GoDaddy Domain Manager page.

16. In the GoDaddy Domain Manager page, click Contact.

17. Click Administrator and verify your associated email address. Click OK.

18. A second confirmation screen will appear. Click OK.

19. An authorization code is required to approve the transfer. Click Send by Email next to Authorization Code.

20. Click OK on the confirmation screens.

21. Check your email for your authorization code. If you made changes to your email address with Domain by Proxy, changes may take time to propagate.

Now that you have completed everything listed in the checklist, you can proceed to submit your transfer request to Doteasy. You can do this via the Renew My Domain Through Doteasy link in your Member Zone – the Transfer Registrar process requires a 1-yr extension to your domain registration. The registry will process your request and send a confirmation email to you at your domain admin email address. You will need to reply to it with your domain Auth Code.

Once the registry receives your transfer confirmation and domain Auth Code, it will notify GoDaddy of the transfer. GoDaddy will then release your domain and notifies Doteasy to complete the transfer and send you the Transfer Complete confirmation.

This process takes anywhere from 5 to 10 days, providing you have completed all the tasks in the Pre-Transfer Checklist.
